On 20th March, 2024,
National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) hosted an Inclusive Education meeting
with key stakeholders to discuss strategies for supporting deaf and hard of
hearing learners.
Held at the NCDC offices in
Kyambogo, a Kampala suburb, the meeting was co-organized by Humanity &
Inclusion (HI) and Kentalis International Foundation (KIF).
The purpose of the meeting was
to clarify misconceptions on inclusive education for learners who are deaf and
hard of hearing, and to identify the gaps, needs, available resources, and
opportunities to improve their well-being.
The meeting explored several
aspects including the curriculum, teaching/learning materials and tools in Uganda
to support who are deaf and hard of hearing, as well as early detection,
referral and interventions to support the learners.
