OPM, NCDC interact with York Press, a global education services provider

National Curriculum development centre (NCDC) and the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) have interacted with York Express, a leading international education services provider.

The meeting, coordinated by the OPM’s Delivery Unit (PMDU) and held at Latitude 0 Hotel in Makindye, a Kampala suburb, featured discussions on opportunities for developing a skills-based learning system in Uganda.

Robert Kasule Ssebunya, the head of PMDU at OPM, said the aim of the consultation was to identify opportunities for collaboration on a modern curriculum design best practice.

York Express, are headquartered in London, UK, offers expert consultancy and publishing services for public and private institutions across several countries globally.

Ssebunya said York Express had expressed interest in supporting Uganda in her quest to develop curriculum that addresses current and future needs.

Dr Bernadette Karuhanga Nambi, the Deputy Director NCDC (Curriculum Review & Instructional Materials Development), said the Centre was open to collaboration with key stakeholders to ensure that the curricula meet the demands of an ever-changing world.

NCDC is a specialised institution under the Ministry of Education and Sports responsible for reviewing and developing curricula for Pre-Primary, Primary, Secondary and some Tertiary levels.

Dr Nambi noted that NCDC had already made significant progress in adapting curriculum at different levels to make it competency-based, with focus on 21st century skills.

Examples include the revised Primary Curriculum, first rolled out in 2007 and completed in 2013, and the New Lower Secondary Curriculum, implemented in 2020.

Sean O’Brien, an educational consultant from York Express said the institution had supported several countries on curriculum framework development, technical education, assessment, professional development and content in ICT, English, Arabic, Math, science and social studies.
