NCDC, U24TV Partner to Advance Curriculum-Aligned Educational Content for Ugandan Learners

The National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) has partnered with U24TV, a sister station of Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC), to promote accessible, engaging and curriculum-aligned educational content through Uganda’s dedicated youth development and education television channel, U24.

The partnership was formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 20thOctober, 2026, and crowned with a talk show themed: “Beyond the Screen: Igniting Minds, Unlocking Uganda’s Future.” The event brought together education leaders, policymakers, digital technology experts and creative industry representatives to explore how television can complement classroom learning and support young people’s development. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Sports Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda led the official signing of the MoU with representatives of Purpose Media, and UBC NCDC .

The Director NCDC, Dr. Bernadette Nambi Karuhanga, emphasised that educational content broadcast on U24 must undergo established quality assurance processes to ensure alignment with the national curriculum and relevance to Uganda’s diverse communities.

She described the initiative as an opportunity to make learning more engaging by combining education with entertainment, creativity and digital innovation.

U24 is designed to serve learners from pre-primary to tertiary level, with programming focusing on education and youth participation. Its programmes include Science in Motion Innotec, U24 Doctor, The Film Spot, Be Money Wiser, Girl Power andBoys to Men, covering science, innovation, health, financial literacy, mentorship and talent development.

The channel also seeks to promote Ugandan culture, local languages and creativity through programmes such as Proudly Uganda and a Kiswahili segment. It aims to increase locally produced content progressively, giving Ugandan creators a platform to develop and distribute educational material that reflects learners’experiences and cultural identities.

Dr. Patrick Muhinda, Commissioner for Library, E-Learning and Information Technology at the Ministry of Education and Sports, highlighted the partnership’s contribution to the national digital education agenda. He noted that technology-enabled learning can improve access to quality educational resources, support continuity of learning during disruptions and provide teachers with practical examples of competency-based teaching approaches.

The initiative also seeks to address inequalities in access to educational resources through free-to-air television, complemented by digital platforms. U24 is available on GOtv channel 824 and through YouTube, TikTok and Facebook, with a mobile application planned to improve access to digital learning materials.

The partnership reflects a shared commitment to strengthening education through collaboration, innovation and locally relevant content. Through its curriculum expertise and quality assurance mandate, NCDC will help ensure that the platform supports meaningful learning while encouraging creativity, critical thinking and practical application of knowledge.

The initiative is expected to provide additional learning opportunities for learners, support teachers’ professional development and help parents guide children towards educational content that contributes to their growth and development.
