NCDC, World Bank Discuss Revised Lower Primary Education Curriculum

On 15th October 2026, the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) hosted a technical team from the World Bank to discuss the revised Lower Primary Education Curriculum, with a particular focus on literacy development and learning outcomes.

The engagement brought together NCDC curriculum specialists and representatives from the World Bank and the Ministry of Education and Sports to exchange insights on curriculum reforms and explore areas of collaboration.

During the meeting, NCDC presented an overview of the revised Primary Education Curriculum, highlighting approaches to strengthening literacy in local languages, English and Kiswahili. The presentation provided the visiting team with insights into how the revised curriculum supports the development of foundational literacy skills among learners at the lower primary level.

The presentation was followed by a question-and-answer session, during which the World Bank team engaged NCDC specialists on the curriculum’s content, implementation and approaches to improving early-grade learning outcomes.

The World Bank team also made a presentation, paving the way for further discussions on areas of mutual interest and the way forward.

The visiting delegation included Saima Malik, Senior Education Specialist at the World Bank, and Sandra Nambooze, an official from the Ministry of Education and Sports.

The engagement underscores the importance of collaboration between curriculum development institutions, government and development partners in advancing education reforms and improving learning outcomes.

NCDC remains committed to developing relevant, inclusive and quality curricula that respond to Uganda’s educational priorities and equip learners with the foundational knowledge, skills and competencies needed for lifelong learning.
