The National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) through enhanced collaboration with the Play Matters consortium, a partnership of organisations dedicated to improving learning outcomes for young children.
The commitment was underscored during a strategic meeting between the NCDC Executive Director, Dr. Bernadette Nambi Karuhanga, officials from the Play Matters consortium, and staff from the Centre’s Early Childhood Care and Education Curriculum Development Department.
The meeting focused on identifying practical areas of collaboration to support the finalisation and effective implementation of Uganda’s revised pre-primary curriculum. Discussions explored opportunities for technical support, stakeholder engagement, teacher capacity development, production of learning resources, and the promotion of play-based learning approaches that foster holistic child development.
Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Nambi welcomed the partnership, noting that collaborative efforts are essential in developing a high-quality, inclusive and learner-centred pre-primary education system that gives every child a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
The Play Matters consortium reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with NCDC in supporting the curriculum reform process and ensuring that the revised curriculum is successfully implemented across the country.
The engagement marks another important step in NCDC’s efforts to build strategic partnerships that contribute to improving the quality, accessibility and relevance of early childhood education in Uganda, in line with national education priorities and global best practices.
