NCDC LAUNCHES THE 50^TH ANNIVERSARY

Come 30^th June 2023, NCDC will be celebrating its 50^th birthday.

Anniversary theme: “Quality Curricula for National Transformation.”

On 14^th June 2022, the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) launched the 50^th-anniversary celebration at Hotel Africana in Kampala. Representatives of education institutions, sister agencies, academia, the private sector, and media and development partners, attended the colourful event.

Minister of State for Primary Education, Dr Joyce Moriku Kaducu represented the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports.

Some Key Achievements over the last 50 years

• Review of Pre-primary and Primary Curriculum
• Review of Secondary and BTVET curricula.
• New Competency-Based Lower Secondary Curriculum (CBC) rollout
• Started on the review of A ‘level curriculum
• Increased focus on skilling of labour through vocational and apprenticeship training (TVET)
• In view of reviewing the A ‘level curriculum, needs assessment and consultative meetings with stakeholders.
• Implementing the language policy

Appreciation

• Government of Uganda for funding the activities of the institution and providing guidance from time to time to ensure that the curricula developed by the Centre are implemented effectively.
• Government of Uganda and the Ministry of Education and Sports for continuous support rendered to NCDC.
• Development partners supported the centre over the years and appealed for more support as NCDC plans to celebrate the golden jubilee.
• NCDC staff, the Director and her predecessors for the tireless effort, hard work and commitment towards the development of quality curriculum.

• The Grand Ceremony in June 2023

Objectives of the 50-year Celebrations

As stated by the Chairperson of the NDCDC Governing Council, Prof George Laadah Openjuru:

• To showcase the Centre’s achievements in curriculum development and implementation over the last 50 years
• To reflect on the curriculum that addresses the education needs of the 21^st Century
• To recognise the contribution of key individuals to the curriculum development process over the past 50 years.
• To attract support from key stakeholders for the various activities as planned
