NCDC and RAU explore collaboration to promote literacy in Uganda

National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) hosted the Reading Association of Uganda (RAU) for a strategic discussion on strengthening collaboration to promote literacy and reading culture across the country.

In a recent courtesy call, a team from RAU met with officials from NCDC’s Research and Consultancy Department to explore potential areas of partnership. The discussions highlighted the urgent need to support both teachers and learners with innovative, accessible, and context-relevant reading resources that can boost literacy levels and foster a culture of lifelong learning.

Among the key innovations shared was RAU’s Online Library, a cloud-based repository of literary content available in text, audio, and video formats. This digital platform is designed to provide learners and teachers with easy access to a wide range of reading materials that support language development, comprehension, and critical thinking.

Both institutions underscored the importance of collaboration in developing and promoting the use of educational materials that empower individuals and communities through knowledge. By combining RAU’s expertise in literacy promotion with NCDC’s mandate in curriculum development, the partnership is expected to yield impactful initiatives that will strengthen reading competencies at different levels of education.

The ongoing dialogue reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that literacy remains a cornerstone of Uganda’s education system and a driver for socio-economic transformation.
