NCDC hosts Malawi Institute of Education for knowledge exchange on curriculum development

National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) continues to share its expertise in curriculum design and development with peers across the region. In this spirit, the Centre recently hosted a delegation from the Malawi Institute of Education (MIE), which was visiting Uganda on a benchmarking mission.

Established as a government parastatal in 1979, MIE serves as Malawi’s national curriculum development centre. The delegation toured NCDC’s head offices in Kyambogo and held a comprehensive meeting with the Centre’s management team, led by Director Dr. Grace K. Baguma.

The visit comes at a critical time for Malawi, as the country prepares to review curricula across pre-primary, primary, secondary, and teacher education levels. During the engagement, the NCDC team shared lessons from its recent and ongoing curriculum reforms, highlighting approaches to fostering competency-based learning, integrating skills and values, and aligning curricula with national development priorities

The discussions also explored strategies for teacher training, stakeholder engagement, and monitoring and evaluation of curriculum implementation. The exchange provided a platform for both institutions to share experiences, discuss challenges, and identify best practices in curriculum design that respond to changing societal needs and global trends in education.

The visit highlights NCDC’s commitment to regional collaboration, knowledge sharing, and promoting excellence in curriculum development, reinforcing Uganda’s role as a leader in innovative and competency-based education across East Africa.
