In May 2025, the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) rolled out a series of orientation sessions to support teachers in implementing the newly released Aligned A’Level Curriculum. The training, conducted at designated regional centres and clustered by schools, aimed at equipping teachers with the knowledge and skills to effectively interpret and deliver the competency-based curriculum.
Through the sessions, teachers were introduced to the philosophy underpinning the curriculum, which emphasises learner-centred pedagogy, critical thinking, creativity, and practical application of knowledge. Participants were guided on how to design lesson plans that foster meaningful learning experiences and move beyond rote methods.
A key focus of the orientation was school-based assessment, which empowers teachers to continuously evaluate learners’ progress and provide timely feedback. This approach is intended to bridge the gap between teaching and assessment while nurturing learners’ competencies.
The orientation also provided a platform for teachers to share experiences, raise concerns, and receive clarity on curriculum innovations. Teachers were urged to take ownership of the reforms by applying the training in their classrooms and mentoring colleagues within their schools.
NCDC is committed to ensuring a smooth transition into the Aligned A’Level Curriculum, strengthening teacher capacity, and aligning classroom practice with Uganda’s broader education reforms aimed at producing skilled, ethical, and innovative graduates.
