NCDC launches 2nd International Conference on Curriculum Development

National Curriculum Development launched the 2nd International Conference on Curriculum Development, flagging off preparations for the event slated for 23rd and 24th April, 2026.

Organised under the theme: ‘Innovative Curriculum Approaches for Sustainable Education in a Globalised World,’ the forthcoming conference will reflect on education in a rapidly evolving environment, characterised by advancements in technology and artificial intelligence.

Speaking at the launch of the conference on Friday, 25th June, 2025 at NCDC, the deputy director and conference chairperson, Dr Richard Irumba, promised an exciting and rich conference programme, featuring keynote addresses from renowned thought leaders, interactive panel discussions, poster presentations, exhibitions, and networking opportunities during the .

“This conference invites us to rethink education. It challenges us to embrace innovation in curriculum design and delivery,” he stated. The themes of the conference include: Integrating ICT and Artificial Intelligence, Fostering sustainability and global citizenship, Embracing interdisciplinary and indigenous knowledge systems, Promoting competency-based education and entrepreneurship, Enhancing inclusivity and early childhood care and education, Strengthening teacher training, and Developing innovative instructional materials.

The Director NCDC, Dr Grace K. Baguma, revealed that the upcoming conference was a critical platform for experts to explore bold new directions in curriculum design and share solutions to real-world challenges affecting education today.

“In today’s rapidly changing world, we must move beyond traditional knowledge-based approaches and shift toward competency-based education. Our learners need to be innovative thinkers, effective communicators, and collaborative problem solvers. This vision aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4, which calls for inclusive, equitable and high-quality education for all,” she stated.

The Chief Guest of the launch ceremony, Prof. George W. Openjuru, who is also the Chairperson of the NCDC Governing Council, observed that curriculum conferences play a vital role in the evolving education landscape.

“They provide essential platforms for research, innovation, and exchange of ideas. Most importantly, they facilitate networking and knowledge sharing, connecting education professionals across the globe,” he said.

Prof Openjuru noted that through the engagements, experts can collaborate to design and implement improved systems and strategies that will shape the future of education, not just in Uganda but worldwide.

“This conference presents an invaluable opportunity to learn from global perspectives which will, in turn, inform our national education strategies and contribute to the development of a skilled, productive workforce,” he stated.
