NCDC, YMCA develop curriculum for out-of-school youth

The National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) is supporting the YMCA Comprehensive Institute to develop a six-month certificate curriculum for textile and fashion design, targeting youth with no previous formal education.

The development of the curriculum is a component of the European Union-funded EVETTI project, whose aim is to enhance Uganda’s vocational education and training by developing quality frameworks and updating curricula to meet industry demands, including in digital skills and environmental governance.

Launched in May 2024, the multi-stakeholder EVETTI project brings together several partners with a shared mission to empower, transform, and create a brighter, more inclusive future for refugees and marginalized communities in Uganda.

The consortium partners include: YINNOH (Youth Innovation Hub), NCDC, Busitema University – Uganda, Brighter Smiles Consulting Smiles – Norway; YMCA Comprehensive Institute – Uganda, Both of Us – Sweden, the Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT), the Katwe Youth Development Association (KAYDA) – Uganda, and Labl Fashion.

As a key partner, NCDC is fulfilling her mandate as the institution of government responsible for initiating curriculum review or reform and coordinating the implementation of educational curricula at all levels (pre-primary, primary, secondary, and tertiary).
