A Needs Assessment Study Report
A needs assessment study was carried out in March 2010 to establish the essential laboratory chemicals and science equipment required in secondary schools in Uganda for effective teaching and learning of the Core Science subjects.
The study was guided by three specific objectives namely:
To improve the existing list of essential laboratory chemicals and science equipment needed by secondary schools for effective teaching and learning of Core science subjects
To find out the challenges faced in the acquisition of laboratory chemicals and science equipment in secondary schools.
To find out the challenges faced in the use of laboratory chemicals and science equipment in secondary schools.
The study was qualitative and a survey research design was used, specifically, a cross-sectional survey. Structured and semi-structured questionnaires were used to collect data from 30 secondary schools, 116 respondents comprising 86 teachers and 30 head teachers from Eastern and Central Uganda participated in the study .
Data from questionnaires was categorized according to items, frequency counts were made, and percentages were calculated, distribution tables showing responses for each item were drawn. Percentages were used to determine the trend of findings and to draw conclusion. In case of open ended questions, responses were organized and analysed according to the objectives.>>>Readmore
